How Physical Activity Affects One’s Health

One of the main functions of physical exercise can be improving one’s mental health. Many teens may deal with various hardships in life, often leading them to low points and even depression. In addition, some teens suffer from other core issues such as low self esteem and eating disorders. For adolescents struggling with these issues, a key remedy may not be so far away. By exercising, the body is able to release endorphins and dopamine. These hormones improve one’s state of being and allow them to experience joy and enjoyment in their daily life, especially at times they may need it most.

Exercise can also greatly improve one’s social and cognitive health. An exercise as simple as going for a walk may give one opportunities to socialize with others. In addition, team sports and group exercises are crucial for the same reason: they allow people to experience social interaction as well as build each other up in positive ways. The benefits of physical activity extend beyond just social health, though. For many teens, team sports and activities can be a great way to learn a new skill or persevere and become adept at one already gained; this allows them to greatly improve their thinking and learning skills, key cognitive functions.

Another crucial aspect of exercise is its ability to reduce one’s risk of diseases. Regular physical activity allows one to maintain a healthy weight and burn off plenty of excess calories. Because exercise can also greatly improve one’s sleep, it allows one to reduce their risk for health complications such as diabetes and obesity. In addition, exercise can help to combat negative triglycerides, while increasing high-density lipoprotein(positive) cholesterol. With these benefits, exercise allows one to combat diseases such as stroke, high blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome.
